Massage Tip

The custom anodized aluminum tip is the heart of yourTMJ Pen. It was designed specifically for the small, tight muscles around your head, neck and jaw in collaboration with top Physical and Massage Therapists.

Scraping edge: Press and drag this edge across knotted muscle tissue for myofascial release. Great for mixing heat with pressure simultaneously.

Acupressure corner: Dig the corner into a tight trigger point, give a gentle twist, and hold for around 1 min. Wait for the release.

Flat heat face: Use this to deliver instant, pinpoint, stable heat directly to the TMJ or other sore spots.

TMJ Trigger Point Map

Trigger points are tight, sensitive spots that cause pain both locally and in distant areas (referred pain). The X marks show where trigger points are common. Red areas show where you may feel pain.

Masseter

Referred pain:

cheek, lower jaw, upper molars, ear

The primary chewing muscle running from your cheekbone down to your lower jaw. Trigger points here are the most common source of jaw pain, facial tension, and referred tooth pain. This is your highest-priority muscle to work.

Technique with yourTMJ Pen

1

Set vibration and heat to a comfortable level. Allow 30–60 seconds to warm up.

2

Use the edge to scrape along the muscle fibers (1min) and against the muscle fibers (1min)

3

Repeat, but this time slowly open and close your mouth as you scrape through the muscle tissue.

4

When you find a tender knot (trigger point), hold steady pressure using the corner for 60–90s

5

Place your thumb inside your mouth and pinch the masseter muscle between the thumb and heated tip. Repeat scraping and acupressure techniques. (This helps target deeper masseter tissue)

Getting Started With Your Pen

Charging, operation, and trigger point basics.

1 min

summary

  • Charging and operation instructions

  • Use the heated tip to dig into the trigger points shown in the provided pamphlet

  • Don't use vibration or a lot of force on the joint (TMJ) itself. Focus on the muscles.

Find Your Root Cause

5 questions to pinpoint what's driving your pain.

1 min

summary

We ask 5 questions to help you determine...

  1. Are your problems due to bruxism?

  2. Are your problems joint(TMJ) related?

  3. Are your problems muscular?

  4. Do your problems stem from the neck?

  5. Are your problems neurological?

Release Your Masseter

Scrape and dig into the biggest jaw pain culprit.

1 min

summary

  • The masseter muscles may be the biggest culprits in your jaw pain and tension!

  • We show you how to use yourTMJ Pen to effectively release them 1-3x a day

  • Essentially you can use the edge of the tip to scrape through the masseters along and against the grain of the muscle.

  • Then use the corner of the tip to dig into tender areas of extra tension. Apply a gentle twist for added pressure.

Target Headaches at the Source

Release the temporalis for fast headache relief.

1 min

summary

  • An overactive temporalis muscle is so often responsible for your headaches and jaw pain.

  • We show you how to use yourTMJ Pen to release it quickly and effectively.

  • To figure out the REASON why your temporalis overactive, read this

Neck Muscles That Cause Jaw Pain

Release the SCM, Splenius, and Trapezius.

1 min

summary

  • Neck muscles frequently refer pain to the head and jaw, especially in people with TMJ Disorders

  • In this video, we show you where and how to release these neck muscles

  1. Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle

  2. Splenius Capitis Muscles

  3. Trapezius Muscles

Release the Sub-occipital Region

Target dizziness, ear ringing, and brain fog from the back of the skull.

1 min

summary

  • Do you deal with dizziness, ringing in the ears, brain fog or just a bunch of facial/neck pain?

  • The occipital region (back of the skull) is gold mine of nerves and muscles that may cause all of this

  • We show how you can release it with yourTMJ Pen

  • Posture is often a root cause, so read yourTMJ Guidebook if you want to learn about your TMJD

Clicking/Popping

Heat → rotation → translation. Three steps to normalize clicking.

1 min

summary

  • Does your jaw click when you chew?

  • We go over a 3 step process to try to normalize it along with why the clicking happens in the first place

  1. Apply heat and light pressure for around 5min

  2. Work on the pure rotation of the TMJ

  3. Work on the pure translation of the TMJ

ADDITIONAL STEP: Before doing all these steps, try releasing the lateral pterygoid muscle as well.

Lateral Pterygoid Release

The lateral pterygoid — accessed inside the mouth, no pen needed.

1 min

summary

  • Does your jaw click, shift, ache or lock?

  • The lateral pterygoid is a really important muscle to learn to release at home because it may trigger all of that.

  • The access point to it lies deep inside your mouth, so you won't need the pen here (it's THAT important).

Unclog Your Ear

Release the medial pterygoid inside and out.

1 min

summary

  • Ear feels clogged/stuffy (with head/jaw pain)?

  • Tension in this muscle can compress the eustachian tube, blocking normal ear depressurization.

  • We go over an extrnal AND internal release you can do for the medial pterygoid

How to (try to) Unlock a Locked Jaw

Warm up, release, then drill side-shift and molar-push moves.

1 min

summary

  • Jaw suddenly locks shut? Likely the TMJ disc blocking the sliding motion

  • Warm up + release chewing muscles (especially the lateral pterygoid).

  • Unlock drills: side-shift→open→recenter, or molar-push with chin support.

  • Aftercare: keep jaw slightly forward, avoid clenching/chewy foods; consider a splint; see a specialist if stuck.

Lymphatic drainage

Gentle heat combined with slow massage strokes along the jawline, neck, and under the ear can support lymphatic flow — helping reduce puffiness, morning heaviness, and tension that collects overnight. A great addition to your morning routine.

How to use

Slow, light strokes downward along the neck

medium heat, medium vibration

3–5 minutes

Sinus pressure & congestion

Steady heat applied around the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and the temples may help loosen sinus congestion and provide temporary release from pressure that so often accompanies TMJ flare-ups. Customers with seasonal allergies love this one too.

How to use

Hold gently over cheekbones and temples

medium heat, medium vibration

2–3 minutes per area

Mosquito bites & insect stings

Apply gentle heat directly over a fresh bite for 30–60 seconds. The heat helps neutralize the histamine reaction, reducing itching almost immediately while encouraging the body to flush out irritants faster. Works best within the first hour of the bite.

How to use

Heat tip pressed gently over the bite

low-to-medium setting

30–60 seconds

Hand, wrist & finger tension

The precision tip is the perfect size for getting into the small, tight muscles of the hand and wrist — especially useful for those who type, play instruments, or deal with repetitive strain. Heat plus gentle pressure reaches the built-up tension a regular massage can't touch.

How to use

Slow circles over the hand muscles, finger tendons, and wrist

high heat

low vibration

End-of-day stress decompression

The jaw stores stress. After a long day, 5–10 minutes across the masseter, temples, and base of skull acts as a full facial reset — helping the nervous system shift out of high alert. Many customers have made this their pre-bed ritual and report sleeping better as a result.

How to use

Slow circular strokes across jaw, temples, and neck

medium heat, low vibration

5–10 min before sleep

How to Charge & Operate

Everything you need to get started and stay running.

Charging Your Pen

Turn off before charging. Plug in provided USB-C cable. Red light = charging. Blue light = fully charged (~1.5 hrs). Always charge before first use.

Battery Level Indicator

On startup, blue lights flash twice. The number of lights that stay on = battery %.

1 light = ~25%

3 light = ~75%

2 light = ~50%

4 light = ~100%

10-Minute Heat Auto-Shutoff

Heat turns off automatically after 10 minutes of continuous use. This is not an error. It's a safety feature. Press the heat button again to restart a new 10- minute cycle.

Charging Your Pen

Random complete shutoff: Contact support immediately. All lights blinking (red + blue): Contact support immediately. Heat or vibration stops unexpectedly: Contact support.

Safety Guidelines

Please read these before using yourTMJ Pen. They exist to protect you.

Limit heat on any single spot to 1 minute

Stop immediately if you experience redness, tenderness, or discomfort.

Do not use on inflamed, damaged, or irritated skin — including cuts, bruises, or acne.

Do not use in combination with medications or ointments that may cause numbness or reduce sensitivity to pain.

Use with caution if you have conditions involving sensory impairment (e.g. multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, poor circulation).

Do not use vibration directly on the TMJ joint (the bony bump just in front of your ear). Use on surrounding muscles only.

If vibration causes dizziness, nausea, or discomfort — stop using it immediately. It is optional, not required

Vibration was designed to help mask pain during massage. If it doesn't help you, don't use it. The heat and pressure alone are the primary therapy.

Do NOT insert into the mouth or anywhere inside the body. For external use on muscles only.

Not waterproof — keep away from liquids. Water damage is not covered by warranty.

Keep away from pets and small children.

Do not massage directly on the TMJ joint (in front of the ear). Muscles only.
